Colorado’s snowpack is off the charts! The snowpack in the Gunnison Basin, CO is currently over 50,000% above average. The state of Colorado snowpack as a whole is currently at 761% above normal. As you can see from todays SNOTEL current snow water equivalent % of normal map, Gunnison is snowpack is so high that they can’t event give it a percentage.

Typically there is zero snow on the ground this time of year so the less than 9″ of snow in the Gunnison Basin is sending the percentages against historic averages into the stratosphere.

The remanent snowpack should be a huge help in quelling the fire season, but all this remaining snow also means that there is a real chance of flooding.
