“At first he tried to get in the driver side. He was looking directly at me and then he decided to go around to the other side and that’s where my lunch was.”

It’s not unheard of for opportunistic black bears to open car doors in search of food but this is the first time I’ve heard of one attempting a break in with a person inside the vehicle. The incident happened  Tuesday afternoon in the Camp Varnum area in Narragansett, Rhode Island.

The bear successfully opened the passenger side door halfway before Brenda McCloskey was able to pull it closed and lock it.  She called the cops and when they arrived the bear had one paw on the car and was biting at the door handle. Police scared the bear away by blaring their sirens.
