Investigation Into Viral Hawaiian Volcano Skiing Video Reveals “NO DAMAGE TO RESOURCES”

UH officials have determined  there was “no damage to resources” after an investigation into a viral video posted by Red Bull Snow of skiers and snowboarders racing down Puʻu Poliʻahu, a volcanic cone that is not only the highest point on Mauna Kea but also considered sacred to Native Hawaiians. Red Bull Snow quickly pulled down the video in the wake of the backlash.

The UH investigation found that even though there was no snow at the time of the incident, the ground was frozen two to three inches below the surface and that helped limit the damage. UH is in the process of creating administrative rules to prevent this type of incident from happening again.
