The president of the International Ski Federation (FIS), Gian Franco Kasper, found himself in some hot water this week after making comments about how immigrants will “ruin” national pastimes, and praised the free-and-easy ways things were done under the old dictatorships of yore.

Kasper is now claiming that his comments, which were made in an interview with Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger, “were not meant to be taken literally”.  In an official statement from FIS he says, “First and foremost, I would like to apologize as these comments were not meant to be taken literally but this was not clear in the final story.”

What makes the comments even more unnerving is that Kasper is an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee, which awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics to Beijing.
