As lakes begin to freeze over, now is as good a time as any to talk ice safety. If you’re planning on ice fishing, snowmobiling, or just doing donuts out there on the ice– make sure the ice is thick enough to support whatever you’re doing.

State of Minnesota guide to ice thickness/safety:
- 4″ – Ice fishing or other activities on foot
- 5″ – 7″ – Snowmobile or ATV
- 8″ – 12″ – Car or small pickup
- 12″ – 15″ – Medium truck
