Climbers Help Himalayan Street Dog Down World’s 8th Highest Mountain

The season saw its first successful summiteers standing atop the world’s eighth highest mountain, Mount Manaslu, a few weeks ago.`

But the successful team, including Brazilian climber Moeses Fiamoncini, was in for a surprise over the course of the long descent.

A video posted to Facebook by Fiamoncini just a few hours ago shows a four-legged climber in need of assistance down to Basecamp. It reads:

“Helping street dog safely get down to BC!! No Fixed Rope, No Oxygen, No Sherpa!!! This’s the only Alpine Style CLimber that I saw this season trying to summit Manaslu and even him at some point (6120 meters) needed help to cross a crevasse.

It is apparently not uncommon for street dogs to follow climbers to their basecamps in search of a good meal, but this little guy may have gotten in a bit over his head by trying to cross an ice field at over 20,000 feet.

For reference, camp 2 on Manaslu is typically near 21,000 feet.
