Let’s hope you never have to do this but its good to know how to make an improvised traction splint in the backcountry out of items you might find in your backpack.

If you’re like me, you may have these items laying around the crib and its not a bad idea to practice setting splints in the comfort of home over the summer:

Equipment needed:

Duct Tape

Pocket knife

Extendable ski pole

1 to 1 1/4 ” wide x 4 feet of webbing (tubular – 30ft for $13.95 on Backcountry.com). Can buy cut to length at REI and other outdoor stores.

1 46″ climbing webbing sling ($6.79 on Backcountry.com)

Extendable hiking pole, preferably with two locks and 3 segments.
