A winter storm just delivered upwards of 50cm to select parts of New Zealand’s south island this week, giving locals reason to wax their boards in anticipation of what could be a great early season.

Treble Cone, Craigieburn, and Cardrona seem to have got the lion’s share of snow with more in the forecast for Thursday. A few ski areas are hoping to open the weekend of June 9th and nearly all the prominent ski areas should be open to the public towards the middle of next month.
