Derek Harms, a student at Winona State died on Sunday while riding in the vicinity of the Spirit Mountain Big Air Terrain Park near Duluth Minnesota.According to the Grand Forks Herald, Harms was accompanied by others at the time of the accident but when he failed to make it down to the bottom of the run, members of his party went back up to look for their friend.

When they reached the prostrate victim, his friends notified ski patrol and they responded promptly with life saving measures. Harms was then transported to the nearby Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was ultimately pronounced dead. The examiner’s office cited “multiple blunt force injuries” as the cause of death.
