When we think of ski bum van life, our minds don’t usually flash to parking lots in France but tell that Carly Van-Evelingen after a full season living in Chamonix in her freshly converted 2010 Renault Master. Carly has a BLOG she uses to document her life but if you follow her instagram you can get a great idea of the build out process:
“Firstly, she did a WHOLE Winter Season in Chamonix with temperatures plunging to -5°F (-20°C) and meters of snow. Her 480 Amp-hour battery system and high-spec solar kit kept her heating and electrics working the whole time. Amazing!
In this video, Carly explains how she converted this van on a tight time-frame with no experience! This made this project a big challenge for her.
I liked how Carly had integrated a small off-the-shelf cupboard into the kitchen unit and the chest storage to make use of some corner space.
Her van is a great example of an off-grid van – enough battery, solar and charging systems to allow her to survive a winter season in Chamonix and keeping her heater going!
I had almost forgotten that she had used my van conversion guide and I was pleasantly surprised at quite how useful she had found it! It is so cool to meet people who have used the guide to make something that I can in-turn share with the world to inspire others again!”
