Marvin Scott, a 39 year-old who hails from Ketchikan, was accompanied by another man at the time of the avalanche. The partner seems to have witnessed the slide and searched for Scott with his beacon for roughly an hour. That search effort was unsuccessful and the partner ultimately hiked out of the area to alert search and rescue personnel to the situation.
Variable weather prevented S&R officials from entering the area yesterday. Recovery efforts are expected to continue today.
