The body of a man found Tuesday morning in Gore Creek just below Chairlift #8 on Vail Mountain has been identified as a 60-year-old longtime Vail resident.

Maldwyn “Maldy” George Zang was spotted by a woman who was riding a ski lift over Gore Creek. Zang worked at a locals’ bar in the resort town, Bart & Yeti’s, for 40 years.

The cause of death remains under investigation, but Det. Luke Causey told the Vail Daily that the frigid overnight weather was a factor.  Zang’s body was frozen.

It is believe at this time that Zang might have fallen into the creek before he died. He’s sunglasses were found upstream and he had a cut on the bridge of his nose.

Maldwyn “Maldy” George Zang, of Vail, turned 60 on Dec. 12. He is survived by his two sisters and one brother.
