WATCH: Skier Caught In Massive Avalanche | Popova Sapka, Macedonia

YouTube Poster

A terrifying moment was caught on video in Popova Sapka, Macedonia, as skier Vladimir Jovanovski was swept away in a massive avalanche filmed by a friend.  Here is how Jovanovski describes the incident:

“I started the first wave, than I tried to move away from it , because I knew the rest of it gonna give away. Few meters more and i would’ve been clear but the moment i took the turn it started. I was lucky to miss the few trees and rocks on the way down, and also not be buried by it,but it was the scariest ride of my life. My friend was filming me and watching closely so he can find me if I go under.”

Here’s the question: Vladimir had already kicked off a slide and was at full stop at the crown, so at that point what was his best course of action? He obviously tried to ski away and set off another crown higher up and was swept away but should he have done anything different? There are tons of avy experts in our audience so please start of a civil discourse with the goal of educating people who might be caught in a similar situation.
