It’s only September, but Pitztaler Gletscher and Stubai Glacier ski resorts in Austria could open as soon as next weekend following heavy snowfalls. The ski areas both announced that they will open for the 2017 – 2018 ski season on September 16th, if conditions allow.

This is great news for the glacier ski slopes that faced troubling conditions as a summer heatwave melted an unprecedented amount of snow and ice off the glaciers.

Pitztaler Gletscher said in a statement, “In a few days it starts again – start in the season is as planned on Saturday, 16. September 2017. It looks really wintry out on the roof of  the Tirol.”

Pitztaler Gletscher is located on Tyrol’s highest glacier and offers a wide range of slopes for all abilities.

It is worth noting that Hintertux, Austria is already open. However, The Hintertux Glacier is Austria’s only year round ski resort.
