After public outcry from social media posts highlighting visitors complete disregard for the rules meant to preserve the fragile environment of Hanging Lake, Colorado, officials have proposed restricting the amount of visitors to the area to 615 per day and require a permit.

Officials said 150,000 people visited Hanging Lake last year, with as many as 1,200 people visiting per day during the summer. The proposed change came from the U.S. Forest Service is meant to protect the lake.
