While Australia’s mountains rarely produce extreme avalanche conditions, upwards of 4 feet of new snow is creating an EXTREMELY unstable snowpack across the Victorian Alps.

Just yesterday, 2 skiers near Hotham Alpine Resort were lucky to avoid getting caught in a slide near the resort in an area known as “Avalanche Gully.”
“We have had a sizeable avalanche in the nearby backcountry… No one was injured or involved in it but it was a close call” – Bill Barker, Head of Hotham Ski Patrol
The slide, which measured approximately 164′ across and ran an approximate 984′, released just after the pair had come to the top of Avalanche Gully reports The Border Mail.
