After a long time gone, wolves are returning to California with a group of new wolf cubs getting discovered in Lassen County this past week reports the Sacramento Bee.
The new pack is closely related to the famous “OR7” wolf, which experts say was likely the first wolf to enter California since 1924. OR7 traveled approximately 3,000 miles before entering California from Oregon back in 2011.
The pack currently consists of a mature female and three furry-wittle wolf cubs.
Since the discovery, officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife tranquilized the female mother and later placed a GPS collar on the wolf to track its progress over the coming years. In California Gray Wolves are currently listed as ‘endangered’ and as such the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will, “protect and recover imperiled species and the ecosystems upon which they depend.”
