screen-shot-2017-01-24-at-8-35-21-amThe Italian helicopter carrying a team of 5 rescuersย was had picked up an injured skierย fromย the Campo Felice area and was flying to a hospital inย the provincial capital of Lโ€™Aquila when it flew through dense fog and a long hanging cloud and crashed into the side of a mountain. The helicopter crashed at 12pm at an approximate height of 600 meters, killing all 6 aboard.ย

The Sun is reporting that weather initially stalled local authorities from finding the wreckage site but was eventually locatedย half way up a mountain a couple of miles from Camp Felice:

โ€œRescue teams have reached the wreck of the helicopter and they found the bodies of the six deceased in the snow.โ€ -Local Police Spokesman

This tragic accident is unrelated but geographically close to the devastating avalanche that decimated a hotel on the other side of theย Gran Sasso mountain range (62 miles from the ย helicopter crash site).

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the rescuers and the injured skier.ย skimap_alta_risoluzione
