While some of the biggest resorts in North America wait till Thanksgiving to start running lifts, resorts in the high country of Colorado are used to ski season beginning in earnest starting in mid-late October.

And while Arapahoe Basin met its October quota by opening on October 21st, the Summit County ski area is still the only resort open today in Colorado– with just one run available to the skiing public.
Usually, early season skiing creates the foundation upon which Colorado ski industry’s generates 4.8 billion in annual revenue but that may not be the case this season.
“Both Breckenridge and Keystone will announce a new opening day as soon as resort officials feel confident they can open with a high-quality snow surface.” – Breckenridge Blog
So far, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper have all announced that they will not open this weekend but instead wait for mother nature to cooperate before handing out any future opening dates.
