‘Sacrilegious much?’ That’s what many Native American people are asking following a proposal to develop the lower reaches of the Grand Canyon.

The proposal, which was recently submitted to the Navajo National Council, would include building a descending gondola into the area where the Colorado and Little Colorado rivers meet. The gondola would also access a snack bar, amphitheatre, and pavilion located on the riverbank of the iconic confluence reports The Grand Canyon Trust.

So far, the $65 million dollar proposal has received fierce opposition from local and national groups alike yet the decision now lies in the hand of the Navajo Nation. Currently, a petition from Save The Confluence is hoping to garner enough signatures to help stop the proposed development.
