Simply put, death is one of the unavoidable realities of climbing Everest.

That fact was realized on Saturday as the death toll for this year’s climbing season rose to a total of 5 after an Indian climber is reported to have passed away while descending the infamous Hillary Step reports Asia One.

The victim has since been identified as Subhash Pal.

According to Loben Sherpa of Trekking Camp Nepal, “He died while the guides were bringing him down.” Pal was accompanied by teammate, Sunita Hazra as well as two others. Hazra successfully descended to Camp 3 and was ultimately taken to a hospital in Katmandu to receive medical treatment. However, the other two have remained missing since the incident and a search remains ongoing.
