A few athletes at the all women’s Gold Nugget Triathlon in Anchorage, Alaska had more than the regular rigors of an endurance race on 5/15/16. A momma bear and two cubs crossed the racers’ paths during the event near the Moose Run Golf Course off of Arctic Valley Road but it was a contingency coordinators were prepared for with a support vehicle with bear spray on hand.

Anchorage NBC affiliate KTUU spoke with a state wildlife biologist Dave Battle about the encounter.  He was concerned and said,“That could be an indication the bear has been fed by humans in the past.”
