A series of storms is heading for California over the next few days. NOAA is forecasting snowfall totals of 6-12″ of snow with snow levels down to 5,000-feet.  

“A series of storms will move through this week, with a weak system today, followed by a stronger system Monday night through Tuesday. This stronger storm will bring accumulating snow to the mountains and rain to the Valley., and will cause travel difficulties. Another storm will bring additional rain and mountain snow Wednesday. More systems will move through late in the week as the unsettled pattern continues.” – US National Weather Service Sacramento California

URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

…WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH
TUESDAY EVENING…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RENO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH 10 PM TUESDAY EVENING, FOR THE EASTERN SIERRA FROM INTERSTATE 80 SOUTH THROUGH MONO COUNTY.

* TIMING: HEAVY SNOW IMPACTING THE LAKE TAHOE REGION ROUGHLY 1 AM TO 6 PM TUESDAY, AND ACROSS ALPINE AND MONO COUNTIES 6 AM TO 10 PM TUESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: TRUCKEE AND TAHOE REGION…4-8 INCHES IN THE VALLEYS AND AT LAKE LEVEL, 8-15 INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ALONG THE CREST WEST OF LAKE TAHOE. MONO AND ALPINE COUNTY REGION…4-8 INCHES ALONG HIGHWAY 395, 10-20 INCHES IN THE HIGH SIERRA WEST OF HIGHWAY 395 INCLUDING MAMMOTM, 1-3 INCHES ALONG HIGHWAY 6, AND 5-10 INCHES IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS.

* WINDS: SOUTH WINDS GUSTING TO 25 MPH IN THE VALLEYS, WITH MUCH STRONGER GUSTS OF 80-100 MPH ON THE RIDGES.

* IMPACTS: HIGH CONFIDENCE IN SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL IMPACTS AND DELAYS ALONG HIGHWAY 395 BETWEEN BISHOP AND CARSON CITY DUE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL TUESDAY. SIERRA PASSES NEAR TAHOE INCLUDING DONNER AND ECHO ARE LIKELY TO BE IMPACTED BY HEAVY SNOWS. CHAIN CONTROLS ARE ALMOST CERTAIN. BACKCOUNTRY AREAS ESPECIALLY THOSE ABOVE 10,000 FEET WILL SEE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND SNOW.
