NOAA: Winter Storm Warning For Steamboat | Up to 12” By End Of Day

A storm is stuck in Steamboat and with opening weekend on the horizon (literally), locals are stoked to ride a lift tomorrow. Especially since snow in the mountains will give way to bluebird conditions on Saturday and Sunday, creating beautifully refreshed conditions up high.

As of this morning, NOAA is calling for up to 12” above 9,000 ft with 6-10” below 9k.

*SNOW WILL CONTINUE TODAY FOR THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AS DISTURBANCES MOVES OVERHEAD. WINTER WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS WITH OVER A FOOT OF NEW SNOW POSSIBLE OVER THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND 6 TO 10 INCHES AT LOWER ELEVATIONS. THE REST OF THE FORECAST AREA WILL SEE PARTLY SUNNY SKIES.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE THE CITIES OF…COLUMBINE…TOPONAS.

* TIMING…SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION…TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 12 INCHES ABOVE 9000 FEET…WITH 6 TO 10 INCHES EXPECTED BELOW 9000 FEET. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS WILL ACCUMULATE ON NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES.

* WINDS…NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH. LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY ABOVE TREELINE.

* VISIBILITY…REDUCED TO LESS THAN 1 MILE AT TIMES IN HEAVIER SNOW SHOWERS AND BLOWING SNOW.

* IMPACTS…TRAVELING OVER RABBIT EARS PASS WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS DUE TO SNOW PACKED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITY.
