Stubaier Gletscher will open this weekend making it the first ski resort to open in the Alps for the 2014-2015 ski season. Other ski resorts in the Alps, such as the Swiss resort of Saas-Fee, have been open throughout the summer, but Stubaier Gletscher is the first to officially open for the 2014-2015 ski season.
The snow has already been falling and the slopes of the Stubai glacier have been groomed for opening day.
“On 13th September we start into the new ski season on the Stubai Glacier. It is all about skiing again at last and we are looking forward to welcoming you,” said a statement from the resort as final preparations are made.
The resort will be operating on a base of 50cm with 5 lifts working over 2 glaciers.
The first lift runs at 8am this Saturday and the final ride down is 4.15pm.
