According to early figures released by The Organising Committee of The Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics made an operating profit of over $260 million. However, many are questioning the figures citing the whooping $50 billion spent overall on the development of Sochi before the games.

“The Games in Sochi will continue to set records, even after their completion. Financial indicators show that these were the most successful Games compared to previous editions,” said the President and chief executive of Sochi 2014, Dmitry Chernyshenko, to the media.
