Storm expected this weekend. No telling what it will bring. In the meantime winds have been down and the Marte chairlift has been open almost everyday, allowing access to some great skiing. Low elevation stuff has melted out pretty badly due to high temps and strong sun. North facing lines, even up high, have a burly crust, called “carton” down here. But it’s all pow up high in the protected couloirs, which are the real prize anyway. Took out the slope meter in the 2,000 foot couloir “Leucemia” yesterday and measured 54 degrees, sustained for the first 500 feet or so. Hearing more English around as the August gringos trickle in, but it’s still only 20 or so folks doing all the big mountain skiing.
