Overview of the Wasatch Front

Last week I spent my day at the Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop (USAW) listening to some very eye opening presentations.  One of the things mentioned at USAW are these super-cool new interactive ski maps.  You can find these awesome FREE maps at WasatchBackcountrySkiing.com.  These maps were made by one of the Utah Avalanche Centers workers.  He spent several seasons compiling names and locations for 1102 runs and areas in BCC, LCC, Millcreek Canyon and some in American Fork Canyon.  You can also buy a print version that has many of the names printed onto a durable vinyl paper so its water proof on those long touring days and all proceeds go to the Utah Avalanche Center.

The map is powered through Google Earth which allows you to zoom, pan and tilt to your liking as you study your next gnarly adventure to Heart of Darkness.  It also has a search option so if you can’t quite remember a name you can search for what you might think it is.  The site has only been open for a couple weeks and is still under construction with more items being added.  Also if you feel that a name is missing from your favorite zone you can send in its location and name and it might be added.

BEST OF ALL IT’S FREE!
