Here’s a video of some avalanche airbag testing by the Slovakian Rescue Service.

The test was at some resort in Slovakia (we’d love to know where).

These guys don’t screw around when they test gear. They presented their findings on avalanche beacons at the International Commission on Alpine Rescue (ICAR) conference last fall in Sweden. The testing regimen was exhaustive and the results were right on. We can’t wait to see their findings on airbags next October at the 2012 ICAR meeting in Poland. But it looks to us like their field tests are yielding the same conclusion as our own tests and those conducted by the Swiss Federal Avalanche Institute: airbags are a no-brainer.
