Welp, it’s officially Spring in California.
It’s 48F at the base of Squaw right now, there isn’t a flake of snow left on any of the trees, birds are chirping, the snow has morphed into isothermic mank in spots, and all the rooftops are dripping incessantly. Spring. Spring is here officially and in active reality.
Two days ago we were skiing the deepest, lightest snow Squaw has seen all year. Then, it rained for a day. Now, it’s 48F and gorgeous out. That’s California I suppose. Don’t like the weather? Wait 5 minutes.
The snow varied today from a bit crispy, to just-right-slush, to 1 foot deep isothermic mank. Oly lady bumps down to the Exhibition groomer was the best run I found. Slushy moguls are way more fun than I remembered.
You could be bummed that winter is over. Or you can embrace Spring and look forward to a coupla weeks of spring skiing in California.
Squaw is likely not going to be open much past April 15th this year, so it’s time to get up here and enjoy it. This summer is gonna be a hot, dry, damn long one. Bring out the BBQs, beers, and bikinis.
