Stowe Conditions Update - 30" in Stowe

Nukin’ all day Saturday.  Bluebird, cold smoke on Sunday!  Deep all weekend!  The snow stake is up to 81″ with more on the way this week.  Here we go!!

The video above pretty much sums it up.  Apologies for the POV edit, but during a snow bomb like this, its awfully hard to find friends!

Stowe, along with most of the east coast mountains, got absolutely hammered this weekend.  Powder starved rippers gobbled up the 30+ inches of snow with a vengeance.

The storm kicked into gear Friday afternoon, quickly dropping an inch or two before the lifts closed for the day.  Then, as darkness fell, the storm increased its intensity leaving the mountain covered with 12 – 18″ of new snow by opening bell on Saturday morning.

Troller Tracks on North Slope

Saturday morning, numerous early birds started laying down skin tracks well before daybreak.

Countless others scrambled up the dicey mountain road to get in line for the earliest lift opening of any ski area in the country. Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph kept the quad on hold to start, but mountain ops quickly scrambled and started loading the triple by 7:15.  Two laps later, Lookout Double and the Gondi opened.  Eventually the new quad fired up to let powder hungry skiers get after everything on the hill.

Stowe skiers made the most of it, ticking off lines from Hellbrook to Hourglass and back.  Urgency quickly gave way to the realization that it was downright nukin’ and countless refills were being served up from opening bell to close.

Sunday could go down as one of the best days ever!  Bottomless, blower pow with endless sun and blue skies to top it all off…
