Kelly addressing the crowd

Kelly addressing the crowd in San Francisco after winning his 11th Championship

Kelly Slater does win his 11th ASP World Tour Championship in San Francisco, CA today.  After being declared champ on Nov. 2nd, then having it taken away, he now legitimately has the win.

Kelly won his heat at 12:30pm today at Ocean Beach and was declared Champion of the surfing world.  In the press box, Kelly joked about winning his 11th for the second time in 3 days.  Even stating the his old buddy and bitter rival, Andy Irons (who passed away last year at age 32), may have been messing with Kelly from the other world.

“Some people said that it might have been Andy messing with me.  I think it might have been.” – Kelly Slater

Check out how sick the conditions were in San Francisco on Day 2 of the comp on Nov. 2, 2011.  Kelly was T-ing OFF.  Skip to the 6 minute mark to watch Kelly.

Showing his championship form, Kelly somehow found good waves on a crappy day and pulled of some crazy rides.  Kelly got a 9.1 score on one wave where bashed the crap out of a whitewater lip, then hung up a 7 foot floater and stomped it clean.  He beat the 17 and 19 year old Brazilians he was surfing against soundly.

…Then after the horn blew, he took a ‘victory lap’ wave in and got a 6 or 7 second barrel that he was ridiculously deep inside.  There was no way he could come out of it…but he’s Kelly Slater.  He pulled out of the barrel standing up and the crowd went insane.  Kelly said it was the best barrel he’d ever had in competition surfing.  It was a classic moment for San Francisco and for Kelly Slater.

A big congrats to Ke11y Slater from Unofficial.  We are really hoping that you compete again and come back to San Francisco again next year.  Amazing….amazing.
