Killington Ski Resort is facilitating an online auction to help farmers who have been impacted from the devastating effects of Hurricane Irene. The online auction is called “From the Ground Up.”  All proceeds collected from the auction will go directly to farms and farmers impacted from Hurricane Irene by way of the Vermont Farm Disaster Relief Fund.

Chuck Ross is the Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture. He recently shared, “Following Tropical Storm Irene, the Agency of Agriculture received calls from many farmers seeking guidance about lost land, lost crops, and lost livestock, as well as calls from Vermonters interested in supporting farmers.” “Until now, there was no designated fund to which we could direct callers. The Farm Disaster Relief Fund creates a vehicle where we can connect the resources of concerned donors to the needs of affected farmers who have suffered damages from tropical storm Irene.”

The “From the Ground Up” auction features online bidding on numerous items that include, but are not limited to skiing privileges at Killington.

Some of the items up for auction include an opportunity to ride the first gondola of the upcoming season, VIP Passes to any one of the 2011-12 stops on the Dew tour, a signed Burton Nug snowboard by Jake Burton himself,  an unrestricted Killington Season Pass for the 2011-2012 season, a week at the Woodward Camp at Cooper Mountain, and 4 Red Sox tickets at the Budweiser Roof Deck Table. Of course there’s several other incredibly worthy prizes also up for auction.

Chris Nyberg is the president and general manager of Killington Ski Resort. Killington was one of the harder hit ski areas in the country due to Hurricane Irene. However, Chris so respectfully shared, “Fortunately, Killington Resort received minimal damage from tropical storm Irene, however, many of our local farmers lost everything.” “From the Ground Up online auction will help Vermont farmers replace infrastructure as well as help cover losses sustained from the storm.”

It seems the Killington spokesman and resort in general has been able to look past their impacts and realize who has been most effected.

The bidding on this auction will conclude on September 25, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. EST. Please visit the online auction, take a look at what’s being offered, and bid on anything you can to help out the Green Mountain State.
