Tahoe area local David Wise getting rad at Freestyle Skiing World, 2011.

The IOC announced that Half Pipe Skiing would be an Olympic Sport beginning at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  Today, the U.S.A.’s Freeskiing National Pro Team’s roster was announced.

2011-12 Nominated U.S. Freeskiing National  Pro Team:

MEN:

Simon Dumont – Bethel, ME
David Wise – Reno, NV
Torin Yater-Wallace – Basalt, CO
Tucker Perkins – North Hampton, NH
Gus Kenworthy – Telluride, CO

WOMEN:

Jen Hudak – Salt Lake City, UT
Jess Cumming – Beaver Creek, CO
Brita Sigourney – Carmel, CA
Devin Logan – West Dover, VT

Pretty cool that of the 9 nominated, 2 of them are from Cali/Nevada. I don’t know anything about Brita nor David, but if those are their hometowns, it’s likely they grew up training in Tahoe.

UPDATE:

-from Flossed deNoun below:

“David Wise and Brita Sigourney are indeed both local rippers, training with Alpine Meadows Freestyle. Both are top-notch rippers (duh!) with Wise performing electric runs at elite events like US Nationals (hosted at Squaw in 2009 & 2010), which he has won 3 of the last 4 years. Brita has quietly completed her degree as she coaches tomorrow’s rippers on SquawFree, all while emerging as one of the best female pipe skiers, as she proved with her X Games Silver and Dew Tour Victory! That’s who they are, Officially.”

Congrats to these 9 athletes for the being the Best of the Best in the US.
