This essentially existential question has been coming up again and again on the chairs at Squaw, on the comments in our posts, in the talk of the town, and, most importantly, on the barstools in the Cornice Cantina.
With the recents snows of last week, people were even more interested than normal about whether or not you can hike up and ski down Squaw when it’s closed.
Unofficial nobly realized this topic was important enough to go above and beyond the call of duty. We picked up the phone, called the marketing department at Squaw Valley USA, and asked the question point blank. It was a big deal. You could feel the tension on the phone, there was heavy breathing, nerves were frayed, egos were shattered, and reality itself was deeply manipulated when the raspy voice on the other end of the line said “no.” The phone call lasted over 17 seconds and the the journalistic intern we had make the call is still going through profound recovery stages that have been discovered to be devastating on multiple levels.
Unofficial is anticipating the intern to recover soon. We are not expecting the ski world’s shock to dissipate anytime soon. Lives, and more importantly, entire schools of thought, have been altered…forever.
