Have you ever wondered how to clean your outerwear? How to “re-waterproof” them? Sure, you could wash it with regular detergent and make it look clean, but what you’ll end up doing is making your garments even less waterproof. What happens when you wash your outerwear with normal detergent? You end up clogging the pores of the jacket. It doesn’t allow your jacket/pants to breathe or resist water. This makes your outerwear less waterproof. This happens with dirt too. When your stuff gets dirty, it gets less waterproof. This is why the fine folks over at Nikwax developed Tech Wash. The Tech Wash works like any other detergent but it will actually clean your stuff AND clean out the pores of the jacket/pants rather then clogging them. This will add some more waterproof-ness to your jackets and pants. Will it make your stuff waterproof like the 1st day you bought it? No, but it certainly comes close! Using Tech Wash isn’t limited to your jackets and pants. You can clean a ton of stuff including backpacks, tents and other technical fabrics. This stuff really is a life saver for your gear. Rather then going out and buying a new jacket for $200 bucks, you can pick up some Tech Wash at any outdoor store for around $20 bucks. Nikwax makes a couple kinds of Tech Wash: 1. a wash-in Tech Wash that is similar to detergent as you put it in the washing machine, 2. Direct Tech Wash that you apply via a spray bottle, and 3. Tech Wash for Down Jackets. The Direct Tech Wash that you spray on works quite well, but if you want to make sure it really gets into the garment, you’ll probably want to use the wash-in kind. I’ve used Tech Wash on a bunch of my stuff and it really does work. You can breathe new life into older jackets and pants which really helps the wallet these days. Nikwax Tech Wash is highly recommended and worth having in your outdoor arsenal!
