It is hard to believe the story coming out of Sunshine Village, BC from yesterday. I had heard a rumor about the first part, but the newest development is what makes this story too F*cked up to be fiction. Be glad you ride at a resort that has set rules that apply to us all equally. This is some lame sh*t! The president for Sunshine should be terminated for this nonsense. I am not sure who the owner or owners of the resort are, but I can’t believe that they will allow this… Full Story….or read it all below.
OH, THE IRONY — or is it hypocrisy? Just a month or so ago, the son of the owner of Sunshine Village ski resort outside Calgary, Alberta, was caught skiing in a closed, avalanche-prone zone. He was confronted by patrollers, but rather than consequences for Taylor Scurfield, it was the patrollers and other employees who paid with their jobs: more than half a dozen were fired. Early this week, two snowboarders were riding in the closed Wild West area when they set off an avalanche. Nobody was caught or hurt in the slide, but the two were fined $287 and charged with trespassing.
Resort spokesman Doug Firby told CBC News, “In a case like this where they’re going into an area that is extremely dangerous and it’s marked very clearly, I think we need to take a pretty firm hand on this one and that’s certainly the feeling of the management at Sunshine…These are two guys who acted extremely irresponsibly, going into an area that they knew was dangerous, really just sort of daring fate. I think any time that would happen, you would see some pretty severe consequences.”
