Salomon Freeski TV released their first episode of the new season today and she’s a doozy! Season 5 of their web-series drops with six and a half minutes of Mark Abma, Mike Douglas, Cody Townsend, Chris Rubens, James Heim and Dane Tudor shredding DEEP PNW La Nina pow from last season. Featuring AMAZING trees, pillows, jibs, rowdy lines, and so many faceshots; this killer edit will get you FIRED UP!

Salomon has really stepped it up with their Freeski TV series the last few years and I can’t wait to see them keep coming. They have been releasing about 20 a season, so keep checking back to Unofficial Networks this winter for all their episodes.

Hilarious History of Freestyle Skiing Video from a Funny Sounding Brit

It appears as if this video was entered into some euro Oakley video contest by a group of Brits a few years back chronicling the history and progression of freestyle skiing. Starring Pat Sharples, this bro is video gold and really makes the video…funny narration at it’s best!

What I can’t figure out is how this edit only pulled 16th place, clearly it has winner stamped all over it! Nice work blokes…

Awesome video here from the 1974 Lange Cup in Sun Valley, Idaho…looked like quite the spring skiing party/race. The video is quite long at almost 14 minutes long, but includes a sweet soundtrack, some awesome parallel slalom racing, vintage gear, hang gliding, hot air balloons, and even a lovely lady ‘racing’ topless with just her race bib, not to be missed at the 9 minute mark!

NSFW Nip Slip!

Some of the other highlights include a dude racing in Wrangler jeans at the 2:45 mark…awesome style for sure, a hang gliding skier at the 7:05 mark…way ahead of its time, and of course the big victory for US Olympian Tyler Palmer, who in fact was the first American to ever win a World Cup in 1971!

So sit back, relax for 14 minutes(or just skip to the nip slip), and watch the way ski racing went down almost 40 years ago!

Rodeo 7 in a Car? – Crazy Crash From This Weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans

This weekend was the 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the largest and most prestigious endurance car race in the world.

Early on in the race, a Toyota prototype racer and a Ferrari GT car connected at the end of the Mulsanne Straight sending the Toyota flipping into the air and causing one of the most spectacular crashes in recent race history. Somehow the car miraculously landed on it’s wheels before slamming into the barriers, leaving the driver Anthony Davidson with a broken back. This had to have been the best case scenario for this situation, this guy probably would have died if the car landed on it’s roof.

If this crash seems familiar, maybe you remember the Mercedes Prototypes that flipped at the 1999 24 Hours race on the same section of track…this one is really scary!

Sweetgrass Productions ‘On The Road’ Web Series Is Back: Bad Luck in the Badlands of Bolivia

June 14th, 2012 by

Sweetgrass Productions 12 part web series ‘On The Road With SOLITAIRE’ continues with Episode 6, End of the Line. Not much skiing in this episode as the crew including Telluride local Kim Havell attempt to travel through Bolivia’s Badlands train hopping to ski volcanoes, unfortunately not running into much luck along the way. The only skiing is on some of the most heinous conditions I have seen, dagger-like ice called Penitentes. No thanks…

The footage is both incredibly beautiful yet tough to watch at points, showing the pain and struggles that come along with such a mission.

The poetic storytelling is signature Sweetgrass style and the cinematography is unique and amazing as always! Looking forward to see them push for the volcano in the next episode dropping June 21st…

Monstrous, Evil Waves! “Code Red” Full Movie-Surfing Goes Huge At Teahupoo Tahiti

This short, 15 minute surf film recently screened at the Telluride Mountainfilm Fest leaving viewers in shock & awe! The entire audience was ‘frothing’ from the craziness they were witnessing on film…top surfers catching “some of the biggest, most dangerous surf ever recorded, much of it captured with the super slow motion Phantom Camera.”

Last August, the surfing World Tour’s Billabong Pro Tahiti event at Teahupoo was cancelled when a major swell hit the area causing the government to call for a ‘Code Red’ closing the waters to all craft. This didn’t stop some of the world’s best riders to find a way into the dangerous waters and surf the monstrous, historic waves. The waves might not have been the biggest ever, but the energy and weight to them is unbelievable. I don’t know how nobody died from some of the crashes!

The filmmakers do an awesome job capturing this and the footage is both amazing and downright frightening, creating one of the best surf films I have seen!

This video is a must-see…

2012 Telluride Mountainfilm Selection: The Denali Experience – Sage, Lucas Debari and Ingrid Backstrom climbing/skiing Denali!

May 25th, 2012 by

This 15 minute short film from The North Face follows a diverse crew from different disciplines climbing and skiing Denali. It will be screening this weekend at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival…

“Free-ride skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and big mountain snowboarder Lucas Debari step out of their elements and make an attempt to climb, ski and snowboard Denali. Sage and Lucas get a helping hand from a huge cast of seasoned and professional climbers and ski mountaineers from the North Face Athlete Team, including Hilaree O’Neill, Conrad Anker, Ingrid Backstrom, Jim Zellers, Emilio Previtali and Giulia Monego, as the two embark on the hardest expedition of their lives.”

Awesome seeing Sage and Lucas humbled by this expedition and successfully summiting the peak. Love the high-alpine jibbing sequences!

The film was directed by Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk, both highly accomplished climbers, mountaineers, and film makers. Jimmy Chin was the first American to climb and ski from the summit of Everest!
