Glory to the rope drop! When the snow is fresh and the avalanche mitigation is complete, the ski patrol drops the rope, letting people into an untouched paradise. Five seconds later, and that untouched paradise is gone.

There’s few places in the world that seem to have a rope drop like Snowbird rope drops. Maybe it’s the access to the ropes themselves before they happen to drop, maybe it’s the amount of snow and rope drops they actually get. I don’t know, but videos always seem to spawn from there.

I’ve been lucky enough to experience a rope drop there myself, and it’s pretty crazy. One minute you’re skiing one of the best runs of your life, the next you’re turning around to see a moguled out trail. Untouched powder lasts just a few seconds.

This video feels… unnatural. Fake, but not fake? Like a bunch of bugs swarming down the mountain. It’s honestly a bit scary.
