As of this morning, nine survivors have been found after an earthquake triggered avalanche ripped through a hotel in Italy’s central Apennines mountains. According to ABC News, roughly 23 people are still missing based on a “provisional list” but the exact number is still unknown.

It is now known that hotel staff had sounded an evacuation alarm prior to the avalanche and all guests were checked out waiting for the road to be cleared to leave but the snowplow never made it and the avalanche hit around 5:30p.m.

Rescuers are continuing to work around the clock trying find more survivors. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Italy. screen-shot-2017-01-19-at-11-43-20-am
