The avalanche that closed Teton Pass last night also resulted in one motorist getting caught in the slide that officials believe was skier triggered reports the Jackson Hole News and Guide.

According to the article, Leslie Goodyear was close to being the second car caught in the slide but was lucky enough to be right on the edge of the deposition zone. It was from that point she witnessed a Jeep just a few hundred feet ahead, get knocked on its side by the avalanche. Goodyear described a scene that involved the man inside the jeep having to swim out of his car to get to safety. Once he reached safety, Goodyear let the man into her car to warm up.

She went on to tell the Jackson Hole News and Guide that if the avalanche was indeed skier triggered, the person responsible owes the victim “a new car and a bottle of Macallan.” The road has since reopened.
