In an interview on Abby Wambach’s new ESPN radio show, Vonn said that she hopes to compete against men in the year following the Pyeongchang olympics. Previously, Vonn petitioned the FIS to allow her to race against men at the Lake Louise downhill event but was eventually denied that request.

“The goal is definitely to make it to the next Olympics in South Korea in 2018, so that’s two more seasons, but I’m really hoping for three seasons and I’ll tell you why. It’s because in my final season, I would like to race against the men in one race.”Lindsey Vonn

Vonn has repeatedly stated that there is no real safety concern keeping her from competing in the men’s league. Still, the FIS has refused but she hopes those feelings will soften during her final years of competition. And while she’s experienced a series of serious injuries over the past few seasons, Vonn believes she’s well equipped to go for three more years saying, “at this point, it’s just a matter of staying healthy and keeping my body in relatively good shape.”
