According to the Adventure Blog, Japanese alpinist Nobukazu Kuriki will attempt one last summit push on Everest starting October 1st. Earlier today, Unofficial Networks reported that after Kuriki was turned away from the summit by deep snow conditions, the mountain would remain unclimbed for the rest of the year. However, Kuriki may not be done just yet.
If he summits, the Japanese climber would end a drought that included five attempts at the world’s highest mountain, not to mention being the only climber to reach the summit this year.
However this time around, the alpinist will not be accompanied by the six person team that initially helped him to Camp 1. He will attempt to summit solo without the help of supplemental oxygen.
As of now, he is resting in base camp.
In a recent interview with the AFP via The Telegraph, Tikaram Gurung who serves as the managing director of Bochi-Bochi Trek said, “He [Kuriki] is staying at Base Camp for a few days but will try again for the summit starting October 1.”
