Starting February 9th of 2018, the world’s elite winter athletes will descend up Pyeongchang, South Korea for the 23rd Winter Olympiad. However, before we start talking about Lindsey Vonn’s ambassadorship and whether or not that means she will compete, let’s take a look at the 2018 Olympics and what makes this upcoming installment unique.

#1. Pyeongchang, South Korea beat out Munich, Germany and Annecy, France as the host city for the 2018 Olympics with 63 votes compared to Munich’s 25 and Annecy’s 7. If Munich had won, it would be the only city in the world to host the summer and winter Olympics.

#8. The Mascot is TBD. The Olympic Mascot is usually an animal that is native to the region. The most notable exceptions to this unwritten rule were the Sasquatch at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 and Human Ice Cubes at the Turin Olympics in 2006. What’s do you think the mascot should for the 2018 Winter Olympics?
