
On Thursday, March 5th, something historicย happened in the Italian townย ofย Capracotta. In a mere 18 hours the townย received a world record snowfall ofย 265 centimeters, or 8 feet, 4.8 inches. The record had stoodย sinceย 1921 when Silver Lake, Colorado recivedย 6 feet, 4 inches during an April storm.ย The town of Capracotta, Italyย sits at aroundย 4,700 feet in central Italy’s Apennine Mountains in an areaย historically known for massive snowfalls thanks to moisture coming off of the Mediterranean.
