On Thursday, March 5th, something historic happened in the Italian town of Capracotta. In a mere 18 hours the town received a world record snowfall of 265 centimeters, or 8 feet, 4.8 inches. The record had stood since 1921 when Silver Lake, Colorado recived 6 feet, 4 inches during an April storm. The town of Capracotta, Italy sits at around 4,700 feet in central Italy’s Apennine Mountains in an area historically known for massive snowfalls thanks to moisture coming off of the Mediterranean.
