Figures just released by the National Sporting Goods Association show that participation in snowboarding has dropped by 28% from 2003 to 2013.

The report also shows that skiing has declined as well but by less. From 2003 t0 2013 participation in skiing was down by 10%.

Experts believe that this decline has been caused by unfavorable economic conditions and the increased prices in resorts.

Snowboarding sprung up in the late 1970s and exploded in the 1990s.It has though been on general decline in the USA and that trend is reflected in Europe.

In the USA snowboard sales dropped 25% since a peak in 2008-2009. Ski sales, on the other hand, has actually rose by 1.5% according to information from Snow Sports Industries of America.
