A out-of-bounds avalanche outside of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has claimed the life of a 29-year-old Alberta man. The slide occurred on Friday at around 2:30pm.
A search for the Canadian skiers was launched after a friend reported the man missing. Search and rescue teams were able to recover the mans body in the debris of an avalanche approximately 50 to 60 minutes after the slide occurred.
CBC News has confirmed that the victim was not wearing any avalanche safety gear.
That same organization confirmed the male victim was skiing with one other person at the time of the avalanche.
According to bulletins posted on the Canadian Avalanche Centre’s website, the danger rating for alpine conditions in the Purcells is currently listed as considerable.
