An Aspen ski patroller died today after being swept off a cliff in a small slide. It is being reported that the patroller was a 49 year old female and was on duty at the time of the accident. The resort reported that she was skiing alone inbounds in an area known as the Ship’s Prow Glades, next to Upper Ladder. According to Aspen Skiing Co., the patroller was located by fellow patrollers at 1:23 p.m. and was determined to be dead at 1:37 p.m.

“This is a shocking and tragic accident that deeply affects everyone in the company,” Mike Kaplan, Aspen Skiing Co. president and chief executive, said in a statement. “Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with her family and friends at this time.”

This was Colorado’s first avalanche fatality of the season.

Our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and fellow patrollers.
