As I was clicking around through Yahoo! Sports today I came across this unfortunate story. A 35 year veteran beer vendor with the New York Yankees got punished and escorted out of the stadium for making a seemingly jovial comment to Red Sox reliever Alfredo Aceves.
The incident took place in between games during a recent double header between the two rivals at Yankee Stadium. Upon hearing cleats walking towards him and a few of his coworkers, beer vendor Steve Lazarus looked up and noticed Aceves.
This is what Lazarus told the New York Post about the exchange:
[Lazarus] walked over and playfully called out, “Hey, you got ID?”
Without missing a beat, Aceves grabbed his crotch and shot back, “I got your ID right here.”
Everyone roared with laughter … except for the team suits.
That’s it folks. That’s all he said and because of the Yankees’ reaction it made national news.
Long story short. Well it’s not really a long story at all…is that I’m a Red Sox fan and any shot that I can take at the Yankee organization I’m going to take while I sit here in Boston in disgust over the monumental collapse I witnessed last week. (F’ing starting pitching) Funny though that Aceves was actually one of the few bright spots during that plummet.
This guy, who’s been slinging beers for the Yankees for 35 years and who has probably done more good service to Yanks fans than A Rod, Phil Hughes, and AJ Burnett combined this season, gets escorted out of the stadium by stadium security and prohibited to work the two ALDS games in New York against the Detroit Tigers. According to the article that’s about $400-$600 in commission!

ps. Steve Lazarus is also a semi-professional comedian who has headlined the Riviera in Vegas and opened for Ray Romano apparently…
