Thereโ€™s a lot of snow out there. You can still practically shred Snow King top-to-bottom, let alone the village. With the tram opening for summer traffic in ten days, the question on a lot of peopleโ€™s mind is, will there be shredding? Well, my friends, the bottom line is: yesโ€ฆand itโ€™s going to be awesome. However, like most good things, there are some stipulations.

Hereโ€™s the deal: thereโ€™s no in-bounds skiing. This is kind of a no-brainer- with road cuts that are up to 20โ€™ deep, you canโ€™t exactly have everybody and their mom wooping down the bowl. Also, thereโ€™s no ski patrol, because thereโ€™s no in-bounds skiing (another no-brainer). Skiers and snowboarders are required to go out the top gate to access the backcountry terrain and are thus encouraged to be prepared to deal with backcountry situations, i.e. avalanche awareness, self rescue, extended response time, etc.

Looking at the village this morning, you could probably just about ski to the bottom via Rock Springs. So itโ€™s going to be an epic first couple of weeks. If youโ€™re into doing some spring backcountry missions, and arenโ€™t against a 4,000โ€™ vertical shortcut, head out and get some. Plus the shake-a-day at Nick Wilsonโ€™s is up to $2,000- which is reason enough for the trip.
